Ransomware-resistant

Locked snapshots protect the restore point.

The most common backup failure is deletion before anyone notices. macup Cloud keeps protected snapshots behind compliance-mode retention, so delete requests from the Mac cannot erase the history you need to recover.

Locked

Snapshots are held with compliance-mode retention for the window included in your plan.

Append-only

The backup client writes new protected data without delete permission for locked snapshots.

Server-side

Retention maintenance runs separately from your Mac, so a compromised device cannot prune protected history.

Inside each snapshot's retention window, backup data is locked by the storage layer and encrypted before upload. That is the point of macup Cloud: protect the restore point from the Mac that created it, while keeping file contents unreadable without your key.

What you're paying for

Three decisions already made for backup.

macup Cloud is storage configured for Mac backup specifically: compliance-mode retention, no extra macup download fees for restores, and a plan ladder built around the amount of data you protect.

One ladder. Clear limits.

Cloud tiers include the backup engine, encryption, per-set policies, and the dashboard. Pick the tier that fits your data; scale up when your Mac outgrows it.

Beyond the quota

Grow past your tier? We talk first.

If you approach your quota, you get an email. If you cross it, you have time to upgrade or prune before the Cloud copy is retired. Existing protected snapshots remain available during the grace window.

Encrypted before upload

Your data. Only yours.

Backed-up file contents are encrypted on your Mac before upload. Your key is protected by recovery material you control, so macup stores ciphertext rather than readable files.

FAQ

About macup Cloud.

What does 'ransomware-resistant' actually mean?

macup Cloud stores snapshots with S3 Object Lock in compliance mode. During the retention window, locked snapshots are protected from normal delete requests, including requests that come from a compromised Mac. You restore from an earlier protected snapshot instead of trusting the damaged files.

Where is macup Cloud data stored?

In the region you select at signup — United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, or Australia. Backup data is stored in that region and held in compliance-locked storage for the retention window of your tier.

What if macup Cloud has an outage?

Restores depend on the selected cloud region being available. If a region is degraded, restores resume when service returns, and customer-impacting incidents are posted at status.macup.app.

Can I migrate off Cloud to BYOS without losing data?

Yes. The Customer Portal can export your repository to an S3-compatible bucket you control. Snapshots remain readable during the migration window, and the Cloud copy is retired after the grace period.

What's the retention policy per tier?

Retention scales with tier. Starter and Personal hold 30 days; Plus holds 60; Studio holds 90; Archive and Enterprise hold a full year. Retention is the minimum — snapshots stay compliance-locked for that window before macup's server-side maintenance can prune them.

Do you have a Data Processing Agreement?

Yes. GDPR-aligned DPA available on request; CCPA compliance at launch; SOC 2 Type II in progress. Email security@macup.app to start the vendor-review process.
